Online marketplaces lose $10.2m a year to fraud, on average – but are there even more, hidden costs?

Online marketplaces are going from strength to strength, in terms of growth and revenue.
Yet, fraud looms large, with 79% reporting an increase in the past year. Today, the average ecommerce marketplace loses $10.2m to fraud every year – and there might be additional, hidden costs as well.
Ravelin conducted a survey of merchants in 10 countries centered around their fraud and payments landscape in recent months as well as their predictions.
Today, we're releasing new data for the Ecommerce Marketplaces sector, including three subsectors:
- Marketplaces: Food & Groceries – consumers can't get enough, yet the opportunities for abuse and fraud are vast
- Marketplaces: Taxis & Transport – numerous riders and other partners that are difficult to vet make this particularly tricky
- Marketplaces: Other – with more platforms embracing third-party reselling, this is a key category
