Online travel keeps growing, but risk is on the rise.
To understand what travel, ticketing and hospitality businesses are facing right now, Ravelin asked 1,504 fraud and payments professionals in 10 countries about what they have seen, where it hurts and what they expect next.
The results form our new Travel, Ticketing & Hospitality Fraud Trends 2026 – A Global Survey Report, which splits previously unreleased findings across three subsectors so companies can see how the fraud picture differs for them:
- Travel & Hospitality: Accommodation – hotels, holiday rentals, short-term stays, bed & breakfasts...
- Travel & Hospitality: Transport Ticketing – online ticketing for buses, airlines, trains and more
- Travel & Hospitality: Other – a category that includes all other Travel companies such as OTAs
Ravelin works with leading travel brands around the world, stopping fraud and abuse as well as optimizing payments, so that merchants can grow with confidence.
Travel fraud in 2026: What Ravelin's data reveals
This year's results demonstrate how, far from simply a loss line for this industry, fraud is shaping how travel, transport and hospitality businesses grow and how customers see you.
Costs are climbing. The typical travel company loses $13.7m a year – more than any other industry surveyed and up from $11m.
86% say that fraud has held back their growth, while nearly two-thirds have postponed a new market or product for the same reason.
Brand damage compounds the problem. Most companies have appeared in the press or social media in relation to fraud, and 81% believe that fraud media coverage erodes customer loyalty.
The report also dives into the future of agentic commerce, detailing predictions on autonomous AI agents and future fraud prevention spend.
