Latest fraud trends in the Digital Goods sector

Digital Goods are unquestionably a huge part of the economy. And due to their digital nature, they're endemic to an ecosystem that includes online fraud.

Revenue loss and customer PII theft are the top consequences of fraud in this sector, where CNP payment fraud and account takeovers (ATO) are the types of fraud that cost merchants the most.

Ravelin conducted a survey of merchants in 10 countries centered around their fraud and payments landscape in recent months as well as their predictions.

Today, we're releasing new data for the Digital Goods sector, including three of its subsectors:

  • Digital Goods: Entertainment – companies whose digital goods focus on entertainment, including streaming platforms such as Spotify and Disney+
  • Digital Goods: Event Ticketing – companies who sell tickets which are then shown by consumers to gain entry to events such as concerts and sports competitions
  • Other Digital Goods & Subscriptions – digital goods are a diverse sector, so this category includes everything else, including subscriptions
