The rise of online fraud, according to the Office for National Statistics UK

For our first episode, we had the pleasure of chatting with John Flately, of the Office for National Statistics about his latest report on fraud in the UK. The report specifically focused on the large scale fraud problem that has been historically under-reported. John and his team took a slightly different approach to gathering information for their report by going into people’s homes and talking to them about fraud they had experienced.

John found, “people are 20 times more likely to be a victim of fraud than robbery, with the most prominent type of fraud being banking and credit card fraud which totals two thirds of all fraud cases: to put this in perspective, 1 in every 10 people will experience card fraud.”
